When geogrids are used in soft ground treatment, while determining the location and number of layers of overlay grids based on geological conditions, the design strength of the geogrids should also be determined based on the height of the subgrade fill.

When the filling height is greater than 4m, the geogrid only needs to meet the minimum requirements of the industry standard, and the longitudinal and transverse ultimate tensile strength should not be less than 20kN/m.

When the filling height is between 3-4m, the vertical and horizontal ultimate tensile strength of the geogrid shall not be less than 40kN/m

When the fill height is less than 3m, the vertical and horizontal ultimate tensile strength of the geogrid is not less than 50 kN/m, and the elongation is less than 4%. It is recommended to use GSZ60-60 geogrid when the geogrid is used at the joint of roadbed filling and excavation. Geogrids should be used with bidirectional geogrids not less than 40kN/m, and GSZ60-60 type geogrids should be used.

When used to widen old roads at the junction of new and old roads, learn from the method of using gratings in the expansion of Shenyang-Dalian Expressway: Where the roadbed is filled with a height greater than 3 meters, steel-plastic composite gratings are laid 20cm away from the top of the roadbed. For steel-plastic composite gratings whose ultimate tensile strength is greater than or equal to 60kN/m in the longitudinal direction (perpendicular direction) and greater than or equal to 20kN/m in the transverse direction (parallel direction), the elongation rate is ≤4%.
